What Is Coffee? ☕

When you hear the word coffee, you probably think of the delicious drink in your favorite mug. But have you ever wondered what coffee actually is?

Coffee begins with a coffee plant.

The coffee plant produces small fruits commonly called coffee cherries. Inside those cherries are seeds. Those seeds are what we commonly call coffee beans.

But here's the interesting part: coffee beans aren't actually beans. They're seeds!

Those seeds go through several stages before they ever make it into your cup. They are harvested, processed, prepared, roasted, ground, and eventually brewed to create the coffee we know and love.

And that's where things get really interesting.

The coffee you drink can taste completely different depending on where the coffee was grown, the variety of the plant, how the coffee was processed, how it was roasted, how finely it was ground, and how it was brewed.

That's why one cup of coffee might taste chocolatey and smooth, while another might taste fruity and bright. One might be light and delicate, while another is rich and bold.

So when we talk about coffee, we're really talking about an incredible journey—from a plant growing on a farm to the cup sitting in front of you.
